Rep. Shontel Brown, representing Ohio’s 11th district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared a series of tweets addressing the impact of Republican proposals on Medicaid coverage in Ohio and the environmental policies of former President Donald Trump. Brown, who succeeded Marcia Fudge in 2021 and previously served on the Cuyahoga County Council, used her platform to comment on these pressing issues.

On April 22, 2025, Brown urged readers to consider the perspectives of Republican lawmakers in Ohio in her tweet: “But don’t take my word for it. Just ask Republican lawmakers in Ohio:”.

She further elaborated on the potential consequences of Republican proposals in Congress, warning of a significant impact on Medicaid beneficiaries. In her words, “Don’t be lulled to sleep by the technical language. What Republicans in Congress are proposing would mean more than 750,000 Ohioans lose Medicaid coverage.”

In observance of Earth Day on the same date, Brown expressed concerns regarding environmental policies linked to former President Trump’s administration. She articulated these concerns in her tweet: “Earth Day is a reminder that Trump’s attacks on our environment are also an attack on our economy. By threatening our land, our water, and our air, Trump is risking food shortages, raising prices, and killing new energy jobs at a time Americans are already struggling.”

Shontel Brown, aged 47, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and now lives in Warrensville Heights. A graduate of Wilberforce University with a BS degree, her career has been marked by her contributions as an elected official, first in the Cuyahoga County Council and currently as a U.S. Congress member.
