Rep. Shontel Brown, who represents Ohio’s 11th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed her constituents through a series of social media posts on August 14, 2025, focusing on health care policy and Social Security.
On the evening of August 13, Brown summarized a recent community event: “Tonight I hosted a town hall in Bedford Heights to lay out the facts about what Trump’s Big Ugly Bill will mean for health care: millions will lose coverage, hospitals will close, and premiums will go up. Thanks to everyone who attended, I’m proud to represent you and won’t” (August 14, 2025).
Earlier that day, Brown marked an important historical anniversary by writing: “On this day in 1935, FDR signed the Social Security Act into law creating a promise that American workers could retire with dignity. Today, over 2.5 million Ohioans, including 180,000 in OH-11, count on Social Security. I will continue to fight to protect and expand these” (August 14, 2025).
Later on August 14th, she commented on ongoing debates regarding Social Security: “Seniors rely on Social Security, but the Trump Admin is attacking the program and MAGA Republicans want to privatize it. I’m going to keep defending Social Security. Today, my office held a Social Security Info Session to help local seniors receive the benefits they’ve earned.”
Brown has represented Ohio’s 11th District since replacing Marcia Fudge in Congress in 2021; before that she served on Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 until her congressional election. Born in Cleveland in 1975 and currently residing in Warrensville Heights at age 47, Brown is also an alumna of Wilberforce University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Social Security remains one of the most significant federal programs for retirees nationwide since its establishment by President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s administration in August of 1935.
