U.S. Representative Shontel Brown, who serves Ohio’s 11th district, addressed several national issues in a series of tweets posted on August 6, 2025.

In her first post at 2:10 a.m., Brown commented on recent changes by the U.S. Department of Agriculture regarding support for minority farmers: “The USDA just stripped away the ‘socially disadvantaged’ label that helped farmers of color access critical resources. This isn’t just bureaucratic policy – it’s personal.”

Later that day, she marked the anniversary of a landmark civil rights law and emphasized ongoing efforts to protect voting rights: “60 years ago, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law. Our work to defend voting rights is not over: Democrats will keep working to protect and expand access to the ballot box for all Americans.”

Brown also responded to news of violence affecting military personnel with a statement expressing sympathy and concern: “Heartbroken by the tragic shooting at Fort Stewart. My prayers are with the five soldiers who were injured, their families, and the entire military community. Our service members sacrifice so much—no one should have to endure this kind of pain, especially on a military base”.

Representative Brown has served in Congress since 2021 after previously holding office in Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 through 2021. She was born in Cleveland in 1975 and currently resides in Warrensville Heights. Brown earned her bachelor’s degree from Wilberforce University.
