U.S. Representative Shontel Brown, who represents Ohio’s 11th district in Congress, has criticized recent Republican health care and economic policies in a series of posts on X. Brown’s comments address the impact of tariffs, changes to Medicaid, and potential consequences for rural and Ohioan communities.
On October 17, 2025, Brown wrote, “Trump’s reckless tariff war is crushing America’s farmers, all while he’s increased health care costs in rural America, and shut down the USDA. Farmageddon. Read my @FoxNews op-ed https://t.co/d5Ksu3ZU7f”.
Later that day, Brown posted another message about health care legislation: “Trump’s Big Ugly Law cuts Medicaid, closes rural hospitals, and lets critical ACA health care tax credits expire. Reckless Republican policies are raising costs and making us sick. https://t.co/i99jXCCziB”.
On October 20, 2025, Brown continued her criticism of proposed Republican cuts: “Republican health care cuts will hurt Ohio: higher costs, more people uninsured, and even an increase in opioid overdose deaths. Cancel the cuts. https://t.co/LUtP13SJ3H”.
Brown has served in Congress since 2021 after replacing Marcia Fudge and previously held a seat on the Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 to 2021. She was born in Cleveland in 1975 and currently resides in Warrensville Heights. Brown is a graduate of Wilberforce University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
