U.S. Representative Shontel Brown, who serves Ohio’s 11th district and was born in Cleveland, has recently highlighted several local and national issues on her social media accounts.

On August 28, 2025, Brown posted about a new environmental initiative: “Today, I was in Cuyahoga Falls to announce the start of cleanup work at Gorge Dam – making the Cuyahoga River healthier from here to Cleveland. That’s good for our economy and our quality of life. It’s another win for NE Ohio, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.”

The following day, she shared historical information about Labor Day’s origins in Ohio: “Did you know Cleveland’s own John Patterson Green, is the father of Labor Day in Ohio? In 1882, he became Ohio’s first Black state senator and in 1892 and he introduced the bill making Labor Day a state holiday, four years before national recognition. #LaborDay” This post underscores Green’s significant role in labor history both statewide and nationally.

Later on August 29, Brown addressed labor rights under former President Trump: “More Trump union-busting. Just in time for Labor Day, his anti-worker White House has terminated union contracts at more federal agencies, including NASA and NWS here in NE Ohio. It’s another attack on workers’ rights that will undermine the morale and mission of these agencies.”

Brown has represented Ohio’s 11th District since replacing Marcia Fudge in Congress in 2021 after previously serving on the Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 to 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilberforce University and currently resides in Warrensville Heights.
