On March 5, 2025, Rep. Shontel Brown criticized the tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump, describing them as detrimental to working families in Northeast Ohio. She stated that these tariffs were "a gut punch to working families in Northeast Ohio—hiking costs on everything from gas and groceries to cars and everyday essentials." She further mentioned that these measures do not alleviate the cost of living.
In another tweet posted later that day, Rep. Brown shared her disapproval with three words: "Disgraceful, dishonest and disgusting."
Later on March 5th, she expressed her condolences over the death of a colleague, Sylvester Turner. In her message, she conveyed her sorrow: "Deeply saddened by the passing of my colleague Sylvester Turner. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time."
