U.S. Representative Shontel Brown, who represents Ohio’s 11th district in Congress, has used her social media platform to honor local figures and address recent events affecting Northeast Ohio.

On July 24, 2025, Brown highlighted the legacy of Tech Sergeant Alma Minter and her unit by stating, "But now their story is known. Naming the post office in honor of Tech Sergeant Minter is a way to ensure her legacy, and the legacy of Six Triple Eight, lives on in the hearts of the community she called home." Two days later, on July 27, she announced new legislation: "Proud to introduce bipartisan legislation to name a local post office after Tech Sergeant Alma Minter, a Clevelander who served in the iconic Six Triple Eight."

Brown also addressed a tragedy impacting law enforcement in Lorain. On July 25, she wrote, "I join people from across Northeast Ohio in mourning the loss of Officer Phillip Wagner and my prayers are with his family and loved ones. It’s a painful reminder of the risks that law enforcement take every day to keep us safe. My heart goes out to our neighbors in Lorain."

Brown has represented Ohio’s 11th District since 2021 after serving on the Cuyahoga County Council for six years. She was born in Cleveland in 1975 and currently resides in Warrensville Heights. Brown holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilberforce University.

The "Six Triple Eight," formally known as the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, was an all-Black women’s battalion during World War II tasked with clearing massive backlogs of mail for U.S. troops overseas.
