Rep. Shontel Brown, who represents Ohio’s 11th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on her official X account addressing recent actions by House Republicans and issues surrounding public safety and political violence.
On September 18, 2025, Rep. Brown criticized members of the House Oversight Committee for their handling of an investigation involving FCC Chair Brendan Carr. She wrote, "House Republicans on Oversight just blocked a subpoena of FCC Chair Brendan Carr, related to his attacks on the First Amendment. Once again, Oversight Republicans only care about enabling the Trump Administration, not conducting oversight."
Later that same day, she addressed concerns about public safety measures under the Trump Administration. In her post from September 18, 2025 at 23:04 UTC, she stated: "Let me be clear: I care deeply about public safety. But instead of pursuing solutions, the Trump Admin has prioritized political stunts, rolled back gun safety reforms, and blocked violence prevention funding, including freezing grants for the Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance."
On September 19, 2025 at 13:18 UTC, Rep. Brown expressed support for a resolution condemning political violence: "Proud to cosponsor @RepVeasey's House Resolution condemning all political violence, including the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the attempts on the life of President Trump, the attack on Paul Pelosi, the killing of MN Speaker Melissa Hortman and others."
Shontel Brown has served in Congress since replacing Marcia Fudge in 2021 after previously holding office in Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 to 2021. Born in Cleveland in 1975 and currently residing in Warrensville Heights, Brown holds a Bachelor’s degree from Wilberforce University.
