U.S. Representative Shontel Brown, who represents Ohio’s 11th district in Congress, has recently used her social media platform to criticize Republican lawmakers and former President Donald Trump regarding health care policy and government funding debates.
On September 29, 2025, Brown posted: "On the brink of a shutdown, Republicans aren't even in Washington. They're doubling down on health care cuts that will raise costs for millions of people."
Continuing her criticism into the next day, she wrote on September 30: "Republicans keep lying about your health care. Their plan is to let ACA tax credits expire, raising premiums for over 20 million people, including 500,000 Ohioans. Everything else is just noise."
Later on September 30, Brown addressed former President Donald Trump directly: "Trump posted a racist AI deepfake after again threatening to shut down the government unless he can continue his extreme health care cuts. He is a national embarrassment!"
Brown has served in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Marcia Fudge and previously was a member of the Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 to 2021. She was born in Cleveland in 1975 and resides in Warrensville Heights. Brown holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilberforce University.
Her recent posts reflect ongoing debates over federal funding and the future of Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits. According to her statements, failure to extend these credits could increase premiums for millions nationwide and hundreds of thousands within Ohio.
