Shontel Brown, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio’s 11th district, has expressed concerns through a series of tweets regarding potential funding freezes affecting essential programs for low-income and vulnerable populations. Her remarks highlight the possible impacts on households and students who depend on these funds.

On January 28, 2025, Brown emphasized the importance of LIHEAP (Heating/Cooling Assistance), stating that "Nearly 7 million low-income households rely on this program to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Funding freezes could put vulnerable families at risk." Read more.

In another tweet posted on the same day, she addressed Title I Grants for Schools: "Funding that supports children in low-income classrooms could be targeted—impacting an estimated 25 million students. Freezing these funds would widen education inequality." Read more.

Further highlighting her concerns about education, Brown noted the impact of freezing IDEA Special Education funding: "Freezing this funding could affect 7.5 million kids with disabilities, making it harder for them to get the support they need to succeed in school." Read more.
