WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) had a busy schedule last week while he was in the district and in Washington, D.C., during which he visited the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center, chaired a hearing for the Science Space and Technology Committee’s Subcommittee on the Environment, and attended the President’s State of the Union address.  

Here are highlights of Congressman Miller’s engagements for the week of March 4 through March 9, 2024:  

MONDAY, March 4 

• Congressman Miller hosted a meeting with his Agriculture Advisory Council and was joined by special guest House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson. Congressman Miller and Chairman Thompson gave an update on the reauthorization of the Farm Bill and discussed other issues before the House Agriculture Committee. Congressman Miller gave a brief update on his work on behalf of Ohio Agriculture and highlighted a recent hearing with Secretary Vilsack. The members of the Agriculture Advisory Council had the opportunity to ask Chairman Thompson questions about issues pertinent to Ohio agriculture and progress being made on the Farm Bill.  
• Congressman Miller met with Palestinian constituents in his Parma district office to hear and understand their thoughts and concerns about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. 
• Congressman Miller visited the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center. Expanding access to career and technical education programs has been one of Congressman Miller’s top priorities since taking office. Congressman Miller met with Career Center Superintendent Dave Mangas and Principal Mike Hall to discuss ways that Congress can assist in developing a skilled workforce. He also toured the facility and saw the students at work. The visit followed the Congressman’s recent announcement of a bill that would create a federal grant program to raise awareness about career and technical education programs.   
• Congressman Miller met with the new Mayor of Brecksville, Daryl Kingston. Mayor Kingston is the first new mayor of Brecksville in 37 years, replacing long-time Mayor Jerry Hruby. The Mayor and Congressman discussed the city’s funding needs and the upcoming process for Community Project Funding, which allows Congress to direct federal resources to important local priorities. 
• Congressman Miller met with representatives of the United Ukrainian Organizations of Ohio and the American Jewish Committee of Cleveland. The Congressman listened to the concerns and challenges both communities are facing due to the ongoing conflicts abroad and provided an update on the status of supplemental funding for both Ukraine and Israel. 
• Congressman Miller met with Brecksville Chamber of Commerce Board President Kris Toth to talk about fostering business growth in Brecksville and ways the Congressman can help the business community. 

TUESDAY, March 5 

• Congressman Miller met with Gary Wolske, President of the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), and other members of the Ohio FOP to learn more about recent crime trends and other challenges facing officers on the front lines of public safety.   

WEDNESDAY, March 6 

• Congressman Miller met with representatives of the Ohio Parent Teacher Association (PTA), including Ohio PTA President, Angela Revey, and discussed the importance of strengthening family-school partnerships, supporting solutions that keep students safe in schools and communities, and ensuring all children have access to adequately funded public schools.  
• Congressman Miller chaired the Science, Space and Technology Committee hearing for the Subcommittee on the Environment titled, Winning in Weather: U.S. Competitiveness in Forecasting and Modeling. The Congressman emphasized the importance of accurate weather data and what additional benefits are yet to be unlocked. 
• Congressman Miller met with representatives of the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce and learned more about a major economic development opportunity for Northeast Ohio and the Polymer Industry Cluster’s recent designation as a Tech Hub for Sustainable Polymers. 
• Congressman Miller voted to pass six appropriations bills, which brought critical resources back to Northeast Ohio. This bill included funded for all 15 of Congressman Miller’s Community Project Funding requests, which will support critical infrastructure, public safety, workforce development, and more. The full list of projects is available here.  These 15 projects were the priorities of local officials, and the Congressman advocated for their inclusion through every step of the appropriations process.  
• Congressman Miller attended the State of Ohio’s Birthday Party. Every year, hundreds of Ohioans fly into Washington, D.C. to meet with Congressional offices and celebrate Ohio’s birthday. In the days leading to the event and at the event itself, Congressman Miller and his team got to talk with local officials and representatives of multiple businesses, schools, and organizations from Northeast Ohio and other leaders from the district. 

THURSDAY, March 7 

• Congressman Miller met with representatives of MAGNET, including its President and CEO, Ethan Karp. MAGNET, the Northeast Ohio partner of the Ohio Manufacturing Extension Partnership, is dedicated to helping small and medium-sized manufacturers increase sales, create jobs and generate cost savings through technological innovation and workforce training. During the conversation, they discussed the ways that MAGNET helps small and medium-sized manufacturers grow. The Congressman was also able to share updates on his work in Congress to strengthen America’s skilled workforce by expanding access to career and technical education.  
• Congressman Miller attended President Biden’s State of the Union address. Miller brought David Wondolowski, Executive Director of the Cleveland Building & Construction Trades Council, as his guest.
