WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) released the following statement regarding the passage of H.R. 7521, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. The bill passed the House of Representatives by a strong, bipartisan vote of 352-65-1.

“The Chinese Communist Party can use TikTok to collect Americans’ data, spy on our children, and push its propaganda. The reality is that TikTok is not merely a harmless social media application, but a dangerous threat to Americans and our national security.

Today’s vote is not an outright ban on TikTok; TikTok will only cease to exist in the U.S. if Byte Dance, Ltd., TikTok’s parent company, which is controlled by the Chinese Communist Party, refuses to divest completely from the application.

Providing for America’s national security – and the security of American citizens – is one of Congress’s chief mandates, and this legislation is a vital step toward that end.”
