WASHINGTON, D.C. – On May 11, Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) announced the winners of the 2023 Eleventh District Congressional Art Competition. Winning first place was Elijah Reese of Cleveland Central Catholic High School. Reese’s acrylic painting “Afternoon Sip” will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year for visitors from across the country to view and admire. 

“Congratulations to the winning students and to all who participated in the 2023 Eleventh District Congressional Art Competition,” said Congresswoman Shontel Brown. “I look forward to seeing Elijah Reese’s first-place-winning painting displayed in the U.S. Capitol, reminding all of us in Congress and visitors from around the world of the abundant talent and creativity of students here in Northeast Ohio. We were overwhelmed by the quality of the submissions, and we extend our gratitude to all participants, as well as their teachers and parents.” 

The full list of winning entries is as follows: 

  • 1st Place: Elijah Reese, Cleveland Central Catholic High School, “Afternoon Sip”
  • 2nd Place: Gabrielle Wallace, Bedford High School, “Dark Stars” 
  • 3rd Place: Easton A. Harris, Euclid High School, “Too Far Gone”
  • Honorable Mention: David Johnson, Euclid High School, “A Shot from Above”
The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide visual art competition for high school students. Winning entries from each congressional district are displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. For more information on the Congressional Art Competition, click here.
