Shontel Brown, U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 11th district, posted a series of statements on August 30, 2025, addressing issues ranging from federal labor rights to the legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), as well as ongoing investigations into the Jeffrey Epstein case.
In a post at 13:34 UTC, Brown criticized former President Donald Trump’s actions toward federal workers, stating: "Trump's latest union-busting move and open contempt for the rights of federal workers is an insult to civil servants. It also sends a dangerous signal to the private sector: this White House does not support workers' rights. Trump is not on the side of working people."
Later that day at 15:32 UTC, Brown marked the anniversary of legislation impacting higher education opportunities for Black Americans. She wrote: "On August 30, 1890, Congress passed the Second Morrill Act, creating 19 Historically Black 1890 Land-Grant Universities. Born out of inequality, these institutions turned exclusion into excellence, expanding opportunity and proving higher education is a promise to the people."
At 23:54 UTC on August 30, Brown referenced her role in congressional oversight regarding new developments in the Jeffrey Epstein files. She stated: "As a member of the Oversight Committee, I spoke w/ MSNBC on the latest on the Epstein files. What happened to the victims is a tragedy and Trump's coverup is a travesty. @OversightDems are demanding transparency."
Brown has represented Ohio’s 11th District in Congress since replacing Marcia Fudge in 2021 and previously served on Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 to 2021. Born in Cleveland in 1975 and currently residing in Warrensville Heights, she holds a bachelor’s degree from Wilberforce University.
