WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Max Miller (OH-7) today announced that he is advocating for water resource projects for Northeast Ohio communities as part of the 2024 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). The projects were submitted to Miller by local officials and will now be considered by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for inclusion in the final bill.

“We have a critical opportunity to advance projects that will strengthen Northeast Ohio’s infrastructure and bolster our region,” said Congressman Miller. “I am grateful for the local leaders who brought these projects to my attention, and I look forward to working with them to see each project through.”

Miller solicited projects from all four counties in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District and submitted a total of eleven projects for consideration. The projects focus principally on reducing flood and storm damage, improving navigable channels, and restoring aquatic ecosystems. The WRDA bill will be written by and advance through the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. Miller will continue to advocate to the Committee for inclusion of each project important to Northeast Ohio.

“The City of North Olmsted is so grateful for Congressman Miller’s advocacy on behalf of our community’s infrastructure and environmental needs,” said North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones. “North Olmsted’s Environmental Infrastructure Initiative will enable us to partner more closely with the Army Corps of Engineers and make these necessary improvements for compliance with the Clean Water Act and EPA regulations sooner. We want to make sure that our residents have everything they need to make their lives healthier.”

“I am grateful for Congressman Miller’s tireless efforts for the City of Solon and all of Northeast Ohio,” said Solon Mayor Kraus. “Solon, like so many communities, has a tremendous amount of infrastructure needs. This WRDA authorization provided by Congressman Miller will enable the City of Solon to engage more meaningfully and productively with our regulators at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. EPA.”

“Inclusion of the Cleveland Harbor Eastern Embayment Resilience Strategy (CHEERS) project as a significant initiative in the Water Resources Development Act will help propel this essential endeavor in Cleveland,” said Will Friedman, President & CEO of the Port of Cleveland. “CHEERS solves an urgent need for a sustainable sediment placement site over the next two decades. We extend our gratitude to Representative Miller for his support of this transformational project that will benefit the citizens of Northeast Ohio.”

“The water line we are seeking to replace was put into service when Teddy Roosevelt was President and is well past the end of its service life, and subject to frequent breaks and outages,” said Chagrin Falls Mayor Tomko.
