WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted 214 – 213 to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas:

“Today, I cast my vote to impeach Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on two articles of impeachment. The decision to impeach Secretary Mayorkas follows a thorough, year-long investigation, conducted in five phases, into the causes, costs, and consequences of the Biden administration’s unprecedented border crisis. There is no doubt that Secretary Mayorkas’s willful and systemic disregard for the law and breach of public trust are to blame.

I want to emphasize that I do not take impeachment lightly. Our Founding Fathers intended it to be used only in the most serious of circumstances, and history shows that they intended the House’s impeachment power to extend to situations of neglect of duty. While the House has only exercised its impeachment power against a cabinet secretary one other time, it is clear that Secretary Mayorkas’s refusal to enforce the law meets this high bar.”
