WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) today questioned the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, at a hearing of the House Committee on Agriculture. Miller pressed Vilsack on key priorities for Ohio’s agriculture industry that are needed to strengthen rural economies in Northeast Ohio and foster American agriculture production.

Given that agriculture is one of Ohio’s largest industries and a significant driver of Ohio’s economy, Congressman Miller and his team worked with the members of his Agriculture Advisory Council, which is made up of farm sector leaders from Ohio’s Seventh Congressional District, to identify important issues to raise at the hearing.

Miller advocated for Ohio’s farmers and livestock producers who are facing unprecedented challenges. Congressman Miller also asked Secretary Vilsack about the rising agriculture trade deficit and the loss of access to stable markets for Ohio farmers. Additionally, Miller highlighted his Farm to Fly Act, legislation he spearheaded to secure American energy resources and drive rural economic development. Finally, Congressman Miller raised concerns regarding the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s need for stronger USDA partnership in state meat inspections.

Congressman Miller’s full remarks are available here.
