WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) released the following statement after voting in support of a short-term, stop-gap funding bill. The bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 320 – 99. 

“I voted in support of the short-term stop-gap funding bill that will finally move us in the right direction to begin reigning in Washington’s out-of-control spending. 

I voted against the last two continuing resolutions because there was no definitive plan for passing appropriations bills that actually made a dent in Congress’s spending problem. Instead, they simply kicked the can down the road just a little bit further without proposing any solutions. This time, I am confident that we finally have a plan in place to get our fiscal house in order. 

Next week, the House will pass six appropriations bills, and then we will get to work on the remaining six. These bills will implement the FRA—a good agreement negotiated by Speaker McCarthy that will save us as much as $2.1 trillion over the next decade—and should contain resources needed for projects important to our communities in Northeast Ohio. That’s money for critical infrastructure, 9-1-1 system improvements, new police cars, workforce development, and more. 

Fortunately, the days of the Pelosi regime, where we are told to pass the bill to find out what is in it, are over. This short-term stopgap gives us time to review the text of next week’s appropriations bill and be sure that all of Ohio’s priorities are included.  

These appropriations bills are not perfect, but on balance, I’m confident that the pros outweigh the cons. Shutting down the government will only make our border less secure, leave our military without pay, and waste taxpayer dollars.  

Let me be clear: this is it for stop-gap funding bills. It’s time to finish the process and enact policy solutions that work for Ohioans.”
