Rep. Shontel Brown, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio’s 11th district, has taken to social media to express her concerns regarding recent political developments. Her posts highlight potential negative impacts on various demographics as a result of proposed policies by former President Donald Trump and his supporters.
On May 13, 2025, Rep. Brown tweeted about the implications of what she describes as Trump's "tax scam," stating that it could have severe consequences for Ohio residents. She emphasized that these plans might lead to hundreds of thousands losing their health care coverage in the state alone. "Instead of lowering costs, Trump and MAGA Republicans are planning to make life worse for millions."
In another tweet on the same day, Rep. Brown detailed who would be most affected by these cuts, identifying vulnerable groups such as seniors, children, veterans, and people with disabilities. She stated that "5 million seniors relying on food assistance" and "10 million children whose health and development depend on consistent nutrition" would be particularly impacted. "Who gets hit the hardest?"
Additionally, Rep. Brown addressed economic repercussions related to agriculture and employment in a subsequent tweet. She noted that proposed cuts could "eliminate $30 billion in income for farmers," jeopardize jobs within the food supply chain, and negatively affect rural retailers serving communities with high SNAP usage. "These cuts would: Eliminate $30 billion in income for farmers"
Shontel Brown has served in Congress since 2021 after replacing Marcia Fudge and previously held a position on the Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 to 2021.
