Shontel Brown, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio's 11th district, has taken to social media to express her concerns about recent legislative developments and local incidents. In a series of tweets posted on May 21, 2025, she addresses the potential impact of proposed legislation and an alarming event at a public library.
In her first tweet of the day, Brown cautions against misinformation regarding health care legislation. She states: "Don't believe the lies. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, millions will lose health care under Trump's Big Ugly Bill." This message was shared at 17:19 UTC.
Later that day, at 18:13 UTC, Brown highlighted a troubling incident involving book burning. She wrote: "Last month, a man checked out 100 books on Black, Jewish, and LGBTQ topics from the Beachwood Public Library. He didn’t check those books out to read them. He checked them out to burn them. This kind of hate doesn’t happen in a vacuum."
Finally, at 21:58 UTC on the same day, Brown reiterated her concerns about health care coverage loss due to Republican-led tax reforms. She tweeted: "Republicans are trying to pass their tax scam before anyone notices. If Trump's Big Ugly Bill becomes law MILLIONS will lose health care. The Congressional Budget Office ran the numbers. In #OH11 approx 13,000 people will lose ACA coverage and 25,000 will lose Medicaid."
Shontel Brown has been serving in Congress since replacing Marcia Fudge in 2021 and previously served on the Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 to 2021.
