Rep. Shontel Brown, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio's 11th district, has recently shared her views on social media regarding various legislative and personal matters. Brown, who replaced Marcia Fudge in 2021 and previously served on the Cuyahoga County Council, continues to be an active voice in political discourse.
On May 21, 2025, Rep. Brown criticized a group of Republicans for their stance on Medicaid. She stated that "Five so-called 'moderate' Republicans could protect Medicaid and stop this bill in five minutes." However, she accused them of not taking action by saying "But they're not. They're hiding."
In another tweet posted on the same day, Brown expressed concern over potential consequences if a particular bill were to become law. She noted that "If Trump's Big Ugly Bill becomes law, millions are at risk of losing basic nutrition benefits." She highlighted the case of Cheryl from Cleveland Heights who is caring for her disabled husband and father, affirming her commitment by stating "I will keep speaking for them."
Later that day, Brown mourned the passing of a fellow congressman. She tweeted about Rep. Connolly's death saying she was "so sad to learn of the passing of Rep. Connolly," describing him as "sharp," "principled," and "always kind." Brown reflected on his leadership style and his advocacy for federal workers and constituents.
Shontel Brown has been serving in Congress since 2021 after earning a Bachelor’s degree from Wilberforce University and having roots deeply connected to Cleveland.
