Rep. Shontel Brown, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Ohio's 11th district since 2021, has recently shared her views on social media regarding proposed cuts to SNAP nutrition benefits and their potential impact on families. Brown succeeded Marcia Fudge in Congress and previously served on the Cuyahoga County Council.
On June 1, 2025, Rep. Shontel Brown announced via Twitter that she would be appearing on MSNBC with Alex Witt at 2:10 PM to discuss "what Trump's cruel cuts to SNAP nutrition benefits will mean for families, Elon, and DOGE." She encouraged viewers to tune in for the discussion.
Later that day, she expressed her concern over what she described as "outrageous lies," noting that "in Ohio alone the state has said 770,000 people will lose coverage." This statement reflects her apprehension about the widespread impact of these policy changes.
In another tweet posted on June 1st, Brown highlighted that "1-in-5 households in my district rely on SNAP." She criticized what she referred to as "Trump’s Big Ugly Bill," arguing it was an attempt to divert resources from those in need to provide tax cuts for the wealthy. She questioned the urgency behind such measures by sarcastically asking if there was a "flash sale on beach houses right now."
Brown is an alumna of Wilberforce University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Born in Cleveland in 1975, she currently resides in Warrensville Heights.
