Rep. Shontel Brown, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio’s 11th district, recently shared her views on several significant issues through social media posts. Brown, who has been in office since 2021 after replacing Marcia Fudge, has a background in public service from her time on the Cuyahoga County Council and holds a degree from Wilberforce University.
On June 17, 2025, Rep. Brown expressed concern over reports regarding changes to the Veterans Affairs (VA) bylaws under the Trump administration. She stated she was "Extremely alarmed by reporting that the VA under Trump has changed bylaws, removing prohibitions against denying care based on marital status, political ideology, age, nat origin, or disability." Brown questioned why the administration continues to make it easier to discriminate.
Later that day, Brown commemorated the victims of a tragic event that occurred ten years ago at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. She reflected on how "Ten years ago, nine beautiful lives were taken in an act of hate at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston." She honored their memory by naming each victim and highlighting their gathering for faith and peace.
On June 18, 2025, Rep. Brown highlighted a positive event where her team participated in the Congressional Baseball Game held at Nationals Park. The game successfully raised over $2.8 million for charity. She noted that "Team Brown had a great time at the Congressional Baseball Game at Nationals Park." and expressed hope that it would help build new relationships across Congress.
