Rep. Shontel Brown, representing Ohio’s 11th district in the U.S. Congress since 2021, has voiced her concerns over recent legislative developments and actions from the Trump administration through a series of tweets. Her social media posts have highlighted issues related to proposed bills and cybersecurity risks.
On June 19, 2025, Rep. Brown criticized a House bill she referred to as "Trump’s Big Ugly Bill." She stated that the bill would "take nutrition benefits away from 4 mil people" and noted that additional policies benefiting veterans, homeless individuals, and foster youth receiving SNAP were being ended. According to Brown, these changes are purportedly made to facilitate tax cuts for the wealthy.
The following day, on June 20, 2025, she joined forces with Rep. Lori Trahan to demand explanations from the USDA regarding DOGE's request for personal data from millions of Americans dependent on SNAP. Brown described this as "another massive cybersecurity risk and privacy violation from the Trump Admin."
Later that same day, Brown addressed what she perceives as misleading information surrounding "Trump's Big Ugly Bill." She cited a comment by Catherine Rampell, noting that the bill "could easily become the largest single transfer of wealth from poor to rich in U.S. history."
Rep. Shontel Brown was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1975 and currently resides in Warrensville Heights. She graduated with a BS from Wilberforce University and served on the Cuyahoga County Council before her congressional tenure.
