On July 2, 2025, Rep. Brown questioned her Republican colleagues about their stance on food security measures in a tweet: "Tonight, I asked my Republican colleagues this question: How exactly does taking food away from struggling families, seniors, and veterans make this country safer? Stronger? More secure? Healthier? Or dare I say it - great?".
Later that day, she shared her preparation to speak against legislation she referred to as "Trump's Big Ugly Bill." In her tweet posted at 13:11 UTC, she stated: "On the House floor preparing to speak out against Trump's Big Ugly Bill."
In another post made at 16:38 UTC on the same day, Rep. Brown reiterated the unified opposition among House Democrats toward the bill. She criticized its provisions for significant cuts to Medicaid and SNAP while providing tax benefits to billionaires. Her tweet read: "House Democrats are united in opposition to Trump's Big Ugly Bill. This bill includes the largest cuts to Medicaid and SNAP EVER - and bankrupts our country with tax giveaways to billionaires. I will be voting Hell No."
Rep. Shontel Brown has been serving Ohio’s 11th District since replacing Marcia Fudge in 2021 after previously serving on the Cuyahoga County Council from 2015-2021.
