Rep. Shontel Brown, who represents Ohio's 11th district in the U.S. Congress, has taken to social media to express her strong opposition to a legislative proposal she refers to as the "Big Ugly Bill." Her series of tweets outline her concerns and criticisms of the bill, which she claims is detrimental to various groups within society.

On July 2, 2025, Rep. Brown criticized Speaker Johnson's characterization of the bill as the "people's bill," asserting that "the people overwhelmingly hate this bill."

Later that day, at 23:05 UTC, Brown tweeted about the impact of the proposed legislation on vulnerable populations. She stated that "hurting kids on SNAP and parents on Medicaid wasn't enough for MAGA Republicans" and added that it also negatively affects elderly individuals in nursing homes.

In a tweet posted on July 3, 2025, at 02:21 UTC, Rep. Brown announced her decision regarding a procedural vote related to the bill. She declared that she "just voted HELL NO on the awful Rule," emphasizing that passing this rule is necessary for advancing what she describes as an "awful Big Ugly Bill." According to Brown, this legislation would make "millions of Americans sicker, poorer, and more in debt" while providing tax breaks for wealthy individuals.

Shontel Brown has served in Congress since replacing Marcia Fudge in 2021 and previously held a position on the Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 until her congressional election.
