Shontel Brown, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 11th district, recently took to social media to express her concerns and actions regarding a legislative issue. Serving since 2021, Brown replaced Marcia Fudge and has been actively involved in political discussions.
On July 3, 2025, Rep. Shontel Brown criticized the proposed legislation known as "Trump’s Big Ugly Bill." In her tweet "An insult to the American people." she expressed that the bill would negatively impact millions by causing them to lose health care and nutrition benefits. She also highlighted that the House Republicans commenced floor debate at an early hour of 3:30 AM.
Later on the same day, Brown posted another tweet showing solidarity with fellow Democrats in opposition to the bill. She stated "Proud to be on the House floor this morning fighting for the American people alongside Leader Jeffries and @HouseDemocrats." This tweet underscores her active participation in congressional debates alongside other Democratic leaders.
In a subsequent post, she thanked Representative Hakeem Jeffries for bringing attention to her amendment aimed at removing specific requirements from "the Big Ugly Bill." According to her tweet "Thank you, @RepJeffries, for highlighting my amendment...", these requirements would detrimentally affect food security for millions by imposing restrictions on SNAP benefits. She accused Republicans of prioritizing wealthier constituents over vulnerable groups such as parents, seniors, and veterans.
As a representative with roots in Cleveland, Ohio and educational background from Wilberforce University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree, Shontel Brown continues advocating against measures she believes are unjust towards ordinary Americans.
