Rep. Shontel Brown, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio's 11th district, has voiced strong criticism of recent policies associated with former President Donald Trump through a series of tweets. Brown, who succeeded Marcia Fudge in 2021 and previously served on the Cuyahoga County Council, shared her concerns regarding health care and NASA workforce reductions.
On July 8, 2025, Rep. Shontel Brown tweeted about what she refers to as "Trump's Big Ugly Bill," expressing concern that it will "take away coverage from millions, raise health care costs and copays, and close hospitals." She highlighted the financial burden on ordinary citizens while suggesting that tax cuts benefit the wealthy: "The billionaires get richer, the people get the bill."
The following day, on July 9, 2025, Brown criticized actions taken by the Trump Administration concerning NASA. In her tweet, she claimed that over 2,000 experts and scientists are being forced out due to these decisions: "The Trump Administration is decimating NASA and forcing out over 2,000 experts and scientists with decades of experience." She specifically noted nearly 200 affected employees at Cleveland’s NASA Glenn Research Center.
Later on July 9th, Rep. Brown reiterated her opposition to Trump's health care legislation by stating its impact on American citizens: "17 million Americans lose their health care under Trump's Big Ugly Bill." She urged not to let Republicans divert attention from what she views as a devastating policy change.
Rep. Shontel Brown was born in Cleveland in 1975 and resides in Warrensville Heights. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilberforce University.
