Representative Shontel Brown, who has served Ohio’s 11th district in the U.S. Congress since 2021, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing federal policy decisions and their local and national impacts. Brown, a Cleveland native and Wilberforce University graduate, used her platform to comment on issues ranging from Social Security to government transparency and Supreme Court rulings.
On July 13, 2025, Brown criticized former President Donald Trump’s fiscal policies in a post stating: "Trump is destroying Social Security - and the massive debt in his big ugly tax giveaway bill will jeopardize the program for years to come. Trump's friends get rich, we get screwed."
The following day, July 14, 2025, Brown addressed concerns over federal property sales in Cleveland. She wrote: "Clevelanders and federal taxpayers deserve nothing less than complete transparency regarding the Trump Admin plan to sell the Celebrezze Building. I'm demanding the data on this bad deal for Cleveland."
On July 15, 2025, Brown responded to a Supreme Court decision involving former President Trump. She stated: "When Trump wins at the Supreme Court, the country loses. Today's destructive ruling will ultimately harm public school students the most, impacting the federal government's ability to support students and promote fairness and opportunity."
Shontel Brown replaced Marcia Fudge in Congress in 2021 after previously serving on Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 to 2021. Born in Cleveland in 1975, she currently resides in Warrensville Heights.
