Shontel Brown reflects on John Lewis and promotes uterine health legislation

U.S. Representative Shontel Brown, who has represented Ohio’s 11th District in Congress since 2021, marked the anniversary of John Lewis's passing and highlighted legislative priorities through a series of posts on her social media account.

On July 17, 2025, Brown commemorated the late civil rights leader John Lewis with a message reflecting on his legacy: "Five years ago today, we said goodbye to the incomparable John Lewis. He didn’t just talk about justice — he lived it. With courage and conviction, he showed us the power of #goodtrouble to shape a more just and equitable nation. John’s spirit is still with us — in every" (posted July 17, 2025).

Later that day, she addressed public health policy by promoting efforts to improve research and treatment for uterine fibroids: "We need more research. We need more education. And we need better treatment. That’s what our uterine awareness legislative package delivers. Grateful to have teamed up with @RepYvetteClarke and @Lupita_Nyongo to raise awareness and push for real action on uterine fibroids." (posted July 17, 2025).

In another post early on July 18, Brown commented on federal spending priorities: "If Republicans can afford tax cuts for billionaires they can afford Big Bird." (posted July 18, 2025).

Brown succeeded Marcia Fudge as representative of Ohio's 11th district in 2021 after previously serving on the Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 to 2021. She was born in Cleveland in 1975 and resides in Warrensville Heights. Brown holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilberforce University.
