U.S. Representative Shontel Brown, who represents Ohio’s 11th district in Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing both legislative initiatives and criticism of former President Donald Trump. Brown, who has served in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Marcia Fudge, highlighted her work on women’s health legislation and voiced concerns about proposed federal policy changes.
On August 2, 2025, Brown announced her partnership with Senator Alsobrooks on new healthcare legislation: "Silence saves no one. Proud to partner with Senator Alsobrooks on legislation to treat and research uterine fibroids, the U-FIGHT Act. Millions of women suffer from fibroid pain, and we need action. Excited to see bipartisan support in the Senate." The U-FIGHT Act aims to address treatment and research for uterine fibroids, a condition affecting millions of women.
Later that day, Brown criticized a bill associated with former President Trump: "Trump’s Big Ugly Bill is a bad deal for NE Ohio. Trump’s friends get massive tax cuts, while 500,000 Ohioans lose their health care and 98,000 lose SNAP benefits. It’s a scam. This week, I held a town hall in Shaker Heights to lay out the facts and set the record straight."
On August 3, she continued her critique with another post: "Lies, broken promises, and dishonesty. Trump is a scam artist."
Brown was born in Cleveland in 1975 and currently resides in Warrensville Heights. She previously served on the Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 to 2021 before being elected to Congress. Brown holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilberforce University.
