Rep. Shontel Brown, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 11th district since 2021, posted a series of tweets on August 19, 2025, addressing both local tragedy and national policy issues.

In her first post at 12:25 p.m., Brown responded to a recent loss in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District community, writing, "This is so heartbreaking. My prayers go out Nunney family and the entire CMSD community. May God give them strength."

Later that day at 3:45 p.m., she criticized proposed federal legislation associated with former President Donald Trump, stating, "Trump’s Big Ugly Bill guts Medicaid & SNAP — Black children and families will pay the price."

Continuing her critique at 7:49 p.m., Brown added, "These are our friends and neighbors, and Trump has no problem harming them — if it means tax cuts for his friends and neighbors."

Brown’s comments come amid ongoing debates over social safety net programs such as Medicaid and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), which provide health care and food assistance to millions of Americans. The legislation referenced by Brown has been described by critics as reducing funding for these programs while offering tax relief to higher-income individuals.

Brown succeeded Marcia Fudge in Congress after serving on the Cuyahoga County Council from 2015 to 2021. She was born in Cleveland in 1975 and currently resides in Warrensville Heights. Brown holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilberforce University.
