U.S. Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) has introduced a joint resolution in Congress to designate August 26 as the official National Day of Remembrance for the victims of the Abbey Gate bombing at Kabul Airport. The attack occurred during the final days of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and resulted in the deaths of 13 service members.

The resolution is co-sponsored by Representatives Tom Barrett, Jack Bergman, Tim Burchett, Juan Ciscomani, Randy Fine, Darrell Issa, Tom Kean, Mike Lawler, Anna Paulina Luna, Morgan Luttrell, Rich McCormick, and Cory Mills.

“Four years ago, 13 service members lost their lives at Abbey Gate in Afghanistan. These men and women embodied the values of America: Bravery, Selflessness, Dedication, and Service. As a Marine, I know the sacred responsibility we carry to honor the memory of the fallen, not just in words, but in action,” said Congressman Miller. “Today, I introduced a resolution to designate August 26 the official National Day of Remembrance for the victims of the bombing at Abbey Gate. A grateful nation must never forget their sacrifice.”

Max Miller has represented Ohio’s 7th district in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Bob Gibbs (https://maxmiller.house.gov/about). He was born in Shaker Heights in 1988 and currently resides in Rocky River. Miller graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2013.
