COLUMBUS—The Ohio House of Representatives today passed Substitute House Bill 2, the state’s two-year construction budget for capital projects throughout the state. The Capital Budget will make historic investments in local community projects, announced State Rep. Tom Patton (R-Strongsville).
Patton secured several capital investments aimed at positively impacting Cuyahoga County and the surrounding region.
Key allocations include:
- $288,000 for the expansion of the BAYarts Cultural Arts Center
- $100,000 for the renovation of the Kol Israel Holocaust Memorial
- $500,000 for upgrades to Brooklyn Veteran’s Memorial Park
- $375,000 for the Two-Foundation Building purchase and renovation
- $500,000 to construct a 140,000 sq. ft. habitat at the Cleveland Zoo
- $400,000 for May Dugan Center renovation project
Other notable allocations are:
- $425,000 for Applewood Centers Inc.
- $500,000 to replace HVAC at Museum of Contemporary Art
- $100,000 for Waterloo Arts Renovation Project
- $250,000 for Canal Basin Park riverfront connections
Further funding includes:
- $50,000 each for Barge 225 Cleveland Metroparks floating education center and American Cancer Society’s Cleveland Hope Lodge renovation
- Various sums ranging from $75,000 to over a million dollars directed towards community parks and facilities including Cleveland Public Theatre and Severance Music Center
Rep. Patton expressed his satisfaction with securing funding: “I am delighted that we were able to secure funding for so many worthwhile projects in the Cleveland area. It is an honor to represent Cuyahoga County here in the House of Representatives.”
He also noted regret over several projects that did not receive funding but expressed hope they could be included in future budgets.
In addition to these funds, Patton secured millions from the Strategic Community Investment Fund directly serving the 17th House District and surrounding communities.
Significant one-time fund allocations include:
- $20 million for Cuyahoga County Northcoast Connector
- $8 million each for Bedrock Riverfront development and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum Expansion
- Other notable funds include:
- $5 million for Cleveland Port Bulk Terminal Modernization
- Various amounts allocated towards local infrastructure improvements such as Brook Park Community Center Restoration ($1 million)
Substitute House Bill 2 now awaits a signature from Governor Mike DeWine.
